This key route into Oxford will now reopen fully in August 2026, although a much-improved off-road route for pedestrians and cyclists will open this summer, largely restoring non-vehicular access.
Botley Road closed in early 2023 for the construction of a new railway bridge as part of the programme to upgrade Oxford station and enhance transport links to the city. Its planned re-opening has been repeatedly delayed.
Network Rail has also taken further steps to support residents and businesses affected by the closure. These include the free Botley Flyer bus service, which runs five days a week, and improvements to safety, signage and lighting in the area. An audio guide map has also been launched to help users navigate the closure more easily.
