Vision Zero road safety event on Broad Street - 10am-4pm 6 November

The annual event is organised by Oxfordshire County Council, with support from partners including Oxford University, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police. It aims to promote the Vision Zero road safety strategy to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the county's roads by the middle of the century, with a focus on cyclist safety in Oxford.

University staff will be there offering advice on how to stay safe on the roads, along with free cycle safety gear. Thames Valley Police will also be on hand providing the opportunity to sign up to the National Cycle Registration Scheme along with demonstrations of good bike-locking technique to help you avoid the inconvenience, cost and upset of having your bike stolen, and there will be another chance to climb into the cab of an HGV and get a sense of what drivers can and can't see of the road around them.

The Bike Doctor will be in attendance carrying out basic cycle repairs and maintenance tasks for University members - the service is free but you'll need to pay for any parts, and remember to bring your University card. And representatives of local cycling and sustainable transport groups including Cyclox will be there to answer questions and provide advice on how to get the most out of the sustainable travel options available around Oxford.
