This means that, after 31 March 2020, University staff will no longer be able to take advantage of the 15% discount.
The scheme formed an important part of the University’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact and help staff commute more sustainably. The University worked with easit to lobby against the decision, and will continue to try to persuade GWR to reverse it. Anne Trefethen, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for People and Gardens, Libraries and Museums, is writing to GWR to express the University’s concerns about the impact of this decision on the many staff members who rely on the scheme’s discounts.
The discount is still available until the end of March; staff may wish to consider whether it would be worth buying a new annual ticket before then. The University continues to provide interest-free season ticket loans in order to help staff spread the cost of commuting throughout the year.
No other travel schemes are affected by the end of the GWR discount through the easit scheme. To find out about the help that is available for rail commuters, please consult the rail pages of the Travel website.
